Final Year Project

Project Title

Fatimid Architecture and its influence on Dawoodi Bohra Architecture in Karachi

Description

My thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part, which is the research aspect, I conducted secondary research into Fatimid Empire and its Architecture in Cairo including their aesthetic philosophy. Then I conducted primary research into three mosques in Karachi which are built by the Dawoodi Bohra community, and I mapped out the Fatimid influences on them. The second part of my thesis involves delving into the traditional practice of calligraphy and ornamentation practiced by the Fatimid Empire and reproducing their art practices.
